Why "Bowl Sinister"?

In the Middle Ages, heraldry was used to identify knights who were otherwise unrecognizable in their armor.

Their shields were divided into sections. The right side was the "dexter" side (as dexter means right in Latin), and the left side was the "sinister" side (because sinister is Latin for left.)

Today, if someone is dexterious it means they're "skillful or adroit in the use of the hands or body." This is because the world is made for right handed people. Left-handers, having to use equipment made for righties, often appeared clumsy.

The word sinister came to mean, in English, well...sinister! Threatening, ominous.
